Linking corporate social responsibility, cooperation and innovation: the triple bottom line perspective

Purpose Drawing on the resource-based view (RBV) and knowledge-based (KBV) theories, this study contributes to deepen knowledge that corporate social responsibility (CSR) exerts firms' innovation, considering role played by cooperation. The research also seeks ascertain factors influence development of business Design/methodology/approach database used is Community Innovation Survey (CIS, 2014) applied in European Union (EU) during time period 2012–2014. A sample 7083 Portuguese firms were analyzed through partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Findings results suggest CSR positively relates with cooperation partially mediates relationship. outcomes reveal investing certain types innovation activities increases willingness cooperate. Originality/value findings contribute encourage an open strategy as easy effective way cope rapid trends changes, since it demonstrates complementary between cooperation, sources value creation. From a triple bottom line (TBL) perspective, highlights must include social, economic environmental initiatives, should be part strategy. As result, managers who intend for society long term plan, monitor manage all dimensions.
